Description:
The Sports Performance Coach/Applied Sports Scientist - Intern is a professional coach in training. The purpose of this position is to expose new Basketball Skills Training along with Strength & Conditioning Coaches/Sports Scientists to a frame of work in developing sports performance for youth and professional athletes and teams. The daily routine of this position includes internship times; where the focus is on education, shadowing, and assisting head performance coach WNBA and Hall of Famer Keisha Anderson - as well as progressive practical application of coaching with athletes and clients.
Education Requirements:
Candidate must be currently enrolled in a Sports program or possess a BA/BS in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or related field
Preferred: Background/Experience with Basketball, MS in related fields
Job Requirements:
Intern - the sports performance coach intern duties include but are not limited to:
Learn company systems and training methodology through education sessions led by Head Performance Coach.
Work through education materials and own research on topics presented - bring critical thoughts and questions for discussion in following education sessions.
Shadow Performance Coach, analyse session plan and coaching strategy
Assist with equipment set-up prior to each session and clean-up.
Write brief report in review of each session
Intern education will include formal and practical work on Strength & Conditioning, Speed Skill Development, and Sports Science/Data Collection and Analysis.
Assistant Sports Performance Coach/Applied Sports Science - the assistant performance coach/sports scientist job duties are:
Assess athletes’ training needs through testing and measurements, discuss goals, and develop comprehensive High Performance Development Plan.
Apply planned professional coaching strategies within small group or individual sessions.
Set up equipment prior to each session, take down and organize equipment following each session.
Collect and organize training and subjective survey data such as; GPS/HR monitoring, S&C test and measurements, rate of perceived exertion, and other metrics relevant to maximizing high performance output and recovery.
Ensure athletes are wearing all sports science wearables (when appropriate) for each session.
Collaborate with technical coaching staff on training schedule, session plan, and practice exercise design.
Compensation:
Internships are unpaid and focused on education, job training, and coaching skill development.
Opportunities will come up for contracted work, paid hourly (based on experience) with Fire N Ice PBT youth/collegiate athletes.
